Virtual Cake Raffle

Fundraiser for CHEO-Plasma Exchange Machine and Ukrainian Community

March is Kidney Month! At Meadowlands we have a family in our community who have been personally touched by kidney disease. To give back to CHEO, they have been fundraising toward the purchase of a plasma exchange machine. This is a special machine that is similar to a dialysis machine in a way as it “can clean your blood in a sense.” It also can be used to replace a patient’s plasma with donor plasma. Lily, a student at Meadowlands, who plans to return for Grade 6, after two years at virtual school, had a kidney transplant in March 2021 and then the kidney disease, FSGS, returned immediately after her transplant. She has had approximately 50 treatments on the plasma exchange machine to treat her disease. Lily, her family, and friends have started Lil’ Kidneys as a way to give back to CHEO and local pediatric kidney families. To learn more you can visit the Lil’ Kidneys website:, Facebook page @Lil’ Kidneys or CHEO donation page.

To help raise funds during Kidney Month we are hosting a Virtual Cake Raffle at Meadowlands PS. We need store bought cake donations for this event to be successful, please see below for more information. This is a fundraiser, only a few students will win a cake. It will be by random computer generated draw on March 31, that will be shared by video. No cakes will be in the school and all cakes will be store bought. Winners will be invited to pick up their cakes on Saturday, April 2. More information will follow on the Virtual Cake Raffle Order Form that will be sent out on March 21. Pictures of the cakes will be featured in a slide show and on the order form.

On March 21 the form will be emailed home. This form may be printed off and sent in to school with a cash donation or the form may be sent in electronically with a school cash payment.

How you can help:

  1. Donate a cake by March 16 (email
  2. Buy raffle tickets between March 22 – 23 (order form to be distributed on March 21)

McDaniels Independent Grocer is helping us out by accepting PC point donations or cash/credit/debit towards the purchase of a cake to be donated for the cake walk.

Please email for information on donating a cake. Cakes or desserts may be donated from any local store (please note allergens, so we can list them in the description).

Due to COVID-19, fundraising opportunities are rare. The funds raised from this Virtual Cake Walk Raffle will be shared 50/50 between the Lil’ Kidneys CHEO fundraiser and to support the Ukrainian community.

Thank you for your support,

Lil’ Kidneys and Meadowlands Parent Council
